Studies show that people who take part in extra-curricular activities are better problem-solvers and more creative. So, throughout the year we’ll be sharing what we like to do in our spare time.
VP at APEX PR and founder of Shop and Tell, Erin Hardy, talks about her weekend in the Bloor West Village neighbourhood.
My beloved hood just got some big love from Toronto Life. The publication recently released its Ultimate Neighbourhood Rankings, and Bloor West Village came out on top. So, for this installment of the #weekending series, I’m sharing my top local stops for All. The. Foods.
Hands down the freshest, best quality produce I’ve found. I buy it all. My high rotation items: honey crisp apples, romaine hearts, strawberries, cauliflower and zucchini. They have a good selection of local and organic. They’re at the corner of Bloor and Windermere.
An institution in the city of Toronto, I’m fortunate to have this gem on the southern fringe of my hood. As the name would suggest, YES there is cheese. All the cheese! But also an extensive offering of cured meats, desserts and gourmet foods. My high rotation items: an assortment of cheeses including La Sauvagine, a medley of cured meats including their house-made prosciutto, Stonewall Kitchen sauces like Curried Mango Grille Sauce, and Chuck Hughes Antipasto. It’s on Ripley Avenue, just off South Kingsway.
This fish market is a regular stop for me,and my go-tos are cod, salmon and the house-made crab cakes. It’s located at Bloor and Durie.
Bloor West Village has such an amazing selection of bakeries, it’s hard to pick just one. But I love Cobs for its Cape Seed Loaf, Higher-Fibre White Bread and Challah. Cobs is located at Bloor and Runnymede.
This local butcher offers a beautiful selection, and is a great go-to for freshly prepared kabobs, burgers and a variety of marinated meat and poultry. It’s located at Bloor and Durie.
When dessert is on the menu, Bake Sale is my answer. A gorgeous selection of cakes, cupcakes, squares cookies and macarons. Each delicacy is expertly decorated into a piece of art. It’s my go-to for birthday cakes, kids’ cupcakes and the Peanut Butter Melts (one-bite cookies) are my weakness.
There’s a lot more to my hood than food, but hopefully this entices you enough to visit and explore all that Bloor West has to offer. Happy #weekending!
