Taking an academic approach, Martin largely focuses on the basics of artificial intelligence and the implications it can have for ethics, privacy, trust, and reputation. He believes that communicators need to understand the basics of what artificial intelligence is and does. Once we know that, we can get a handle on where communicators might fit in and develop strategies on how to approach it.
