Leading up to Canada Day, the APEX team is having a great Canadian scavenger hunt, exploring media markets across the country.

The province of Québec is also celebrating La Saint-Jean-Baptiste (known as La fête nationale) this week! As a follow-up to yesterday’s post about Québec City, today we explore Montréal.

  • Host of the 1976 Olympics, the first to be hosted by Canada.
  • The casino, which consists of three interconnected buildings. Two of these, the French Pavilion and the Québec Pavilion, were built for Expo 67.
  • In preparation for Expo 67, they used the fill that was excavated during the construction of the Montréal Metro to create Notre Dame Island and to enlarge Saint Helen’s Island by consolidating it with several neighboring islands
  • No building in Montréal can be taller than the cross on the Mount Royal Mountain.
  • Mount Royal Park was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, the same person that designed New York City’s Central Park.
