Jesse Cecchetto is APEX’s newest team member, joining our integrated communications team. Jesse attended journalism school at Sheridan College. Here’s what he had to say about his role.
Who are you and tell us about your background?
I got involved in PR because I knew that I wanted to do something more than just writing stories. I love to create content, but I also didn’t want to be limited to just reporting news. I’ve always enjoyed writing about what I’m passionate about, and even before college, I wrote and created digital content for small video game websites and blogs. When I’m not working, I play video games and spend an un-reasonable amount of money at different restaurants.
Who inspires you?
My parents are without a doubt my biggest inspiration. My mom and dad have always followed their passion in life and they’ve been supportive of my decisions to follow the many passions I’ve had throughout my life.
What app or technology do you rely on most day-to-day?
I would say that I have an unhealthy addiction to Instagram. At least I use it for work now so I can justify it a little easier. Other than that, I’m a daily Netflix binger.
Who is your favourite Instagrammer and podcast?
I don’t necessarily have a favorite Instagrammer, I mostly try and keep up to date with my friends. The H3 Podcast and the Joe Rogan podcast are my favorite shows on the internet.
What are you most excited for this year?
I’m excited for the final season of Game of Thrones, but also mildly depressed that it will be gone forever after that. More seriously though, I’m excited for the rest of my internship and everything that I’m going to learn along the way. I’m excited to be able to bring new ideas and fresh perspectives to the table once I’ve learned the ins and outs of the business.
What is the most important piece of advice you could give for someone starting a career in PR?
Manage your time properly. Something that I’ve had to learn very quickly is that you need to have good time management skills. There can be a lot of moving pieces at times you it’s crucial that you had a good sense of what you need to accomplish.
