Our Consultant Cathryn Hurdle tells us about herself and her path to public relations.
1. What got you into PR?
I don’t have a crazy story about getting into PR, but I did know two things: I wanted to move to a big city and have a career that allowed me to work with people. I stumbled across the Public Relations Program at Humber College and it checked off both of those boxes for me!
2. What accomplishments are you proud of so far in your career?
I’m proud of all the events and campaigns that I’ve had the opportunity to work on. I enjoy projects that push boundaries and one that sticks out was a phone launch for LG Electronics. It was a lot of work, but I had so much fun doing it. We worked with Canadian fashion designers to help create pieces inspired by the phone. We also hosted a virtual fashion show and had a Canadian rapper perform – super cool! I’ve also had the chance to work with some Toronto Raptors which was awesome.
3. What are you most passionate about professionally and personally?
Professionally, I enjoy working on projects that really make a difference and change how people think and behave – it’s one of the most interesting parts of my job. In my personal life, I’m passionate about a lot of things but my family is number one.
4. What do you do outside of work?
Due to the pandemic, I’ve been hanging out with my roommate a lot. Thankfully, we are good friends! We stay up to date on the latest reality shows and go for a lot of walks around our neighborhood. I Facetime my family and my nieces and nephew every day. I’ve also been doing a lot more online shopping than normal.
5. How do you stay up to date with news and trends?
I make sure to read the news and I get a lot of updates on social media. When it comes to trends, I try and consume as many different types of media as possible. Right now, I’m playing around with Club House and spending too many hours on TikTok.
