Curiosity and ongoing learning are a key requirement at our agency. Studies show that people who continue to learn as professionals are better problem-solvers, more creative and tend to enjoy their jobs more so that’s a bonus. This month we are sharing what are our go-to for professional resources for each of us at APEX PR and ruckus Digital.
As a PR professional in the consumer sector, it’s important to stay on top of daily news, current events, trends and industry updates in order to stay current and informed. Here are a few of my go-to sources in my rotation lately:
- WhoWhatWear | For the latest trends in fashion, WhoWhatWear is my top source. I love reading about the latest style trends for every season both to inform my own personal style and as pitch inspo for some of our fashion clients.
- Refinery29.com | Another one of my go-tos for pop culture updates, timely topics, style, beauty and lifestyle trends. A lot of the journalists we pitch everyday write articles for the new Canadian page, and it’s super interesting to read about the day’s latest trends or pop culture updates. This site also helps to inform a lot of the pitches I write, as well as helps me to understand which journalist covers what topic.
- PRDaily | One of my top outlets when thinking up “big ideas” for clients. It helps to get a sense of what competitors are doing and can also help drum up inspiration for the next big even we are putting on.
- My personal network | It also goes without saying that my network is invaluable when learning about key events and the latest trends in PR. I am fortunate to have an amazing group of PR friends, whether they are past schoolmates and current and past coworkers. Overhearing conversations in the office, chatting with my PR friends in our group chats and skimming social media to see what’s happening, are some of my top ways to keep a pulse on current events.
