With 2019 ramping up, expect new trends throughout the news, social media, technology and more. At APEX and ruckus digital we will be sharing our predictions on some of these trends that we think will define 2019 (or at least part of it).

Derek Bathurst, Consultant at APEX PR, shares his view on the use of Instagram pre-sets.

Thank u, next 2018. 2019 is here and my crystal ball prediction is that it’s the year of stepping up your Instagram filter aesthetic. Whoever said a good filter can’t solve your photo problems, mustn’t have had a good enough filter to solve them. With the right filter you can have a smile that’s beamin’ and skin that’s gleamin’. (Can you tell my 2019 has started off listening to too much Ariana Grande? No? Me neither.).

The concept of branded storytelling as we know it is changing – in a digital age, we’ve seen brands relying on influencers to tell their stories more than ever. Influencers are audience experts. They are the ones who know how to best engage with their audience, and what images and content they best respond to, which allows brands to connect with audiences on a whole new level. But how can brands stay on top Instagram trends and stay top of mind in a world that is quickly becoming cluttered by influencer info-besity?

One trend we are seeing with influencers is the creation of Instagram pre-sets. Simply explained, pre-sets are photo filters, like the ones you have in the Instagram app for example. Pre-sets are used by influencers to save time and get a certain look for their photo, helping create that perfect Instagram feed aesthetic that their followers love.

For 2019, I believe you’ll see the rise of brands collaborating with influencers to create branded pre-sets that are available to consumers to achieve the perfect Instagram aesthetic. This is a great way for fashion and beauty brands to connect with consumers while allowing them to develop pre-sets that match the theme of upcoming collections, and create filters that highlight specific colours or trends.

So, for 2019 let’s say “thank u, next” to the time spent perfecting your Instagram feed and instead focus on the “love” your Instagram photos will see with the rise of branded Instagram pre-sets.
