1. What is the biggest surprise/change you’ve seen in your industry in the past year?

“The biggest change in the PR industry has been the investment in design and creative resources driven by the demands for more visual impact in social and digital channels.”

2. Who or what is a true disrupter or game changer in your opinion? Why?

“I’m a big believer in the vision Zuckerberg has shown. The purchase of Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus Rift show that he’s thinking three or four steps ahead all the time. Love or hate Facebook, Zuckerberg may prove to be the Steve Jobs of this generation.”

3. What app or technology do you rely on most day-to-day? Why?

“iPhone. It’s a computer in my pocket. I expect the other software tools I use to be either responsive or have apps that allow me to use them effectively on mobile as on my Mac.  Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Sprout Social, Evernote and others all work seamlessly across all my devices so I’m not locked to a device to stay productive on the fly.”

4. What don’t you want to see carried over in 2015?

“People moaning about how platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. are being unfair by forcing brands to pay for exposure.  Those platforms are businesses that are attempting to make money.  Getting a free ride for a while was nice, but those days are long over.”

5. What are you most excited about for 2015?

“The continued evolution of communications.  Social media has influenced an era of transparency, co-creation and dialogue with brands that was unheard of a few years ago.  I worked for a company that as late as 2004 had a policy of not taking any unsolicited ideas from the public. Now entire brand campaigns are built on that very premise.”
