With almost 2.5 million daily passengers, many of us rely on the Toronto Transit Commission. Today we chat with Andy Byford, Chief Executive Officer of the TTC (Follow @TTChelps).

1. Is there a global public transit guru who has been particularly influential?

“My guru would be Mike Brown, Managing Director of the London Underground.  He was my boss three times at the Tube and he has led a remarkable transformation of London’s transit system – a top to bottom modernization that I am working to replicate, here at the TTC.”

2. What piece of communications advice has really stuck with you?

“In terms of advice, my boss in Sydney, Rob Mason (another icon) told me to always “value my signature.”  Wise advice given the amount of things I have to sign and for which I am consequentially accountable.”

3. Apart from Toronto of course, what other cities do you love?

“My first love is my home city, Plymouth, in Devon, England.  Internationally my top three would be New York, Hong Kong and London – with San Francisco at #4.”

These questions with Andy Byford were compiled by Ken Evans. Also, catch some other conversations we’ve had.
