Herschel: My life in a bag

I don’t know about you, but when I pack my bag for the day I might as well be packing for a climb up Mount Everest.

In a world where 24 hours in a day is barely enough, I find my work bag – or in this case, my life bag – is my most prized possession.

This month the APEX team was challenged to think of brand that we are thankful for and my Herschel bag seemed like a perfect fit for this topic.

My Herschel duffle is by far the most used and valued item that I own.  I use it to store my work computer, I use it to stuff my gym clothes into, and I also use it to pull together an outfit.

With the many ways I use this bag, it is no wonder that this brand was designed to aid the everyday traveler for their journeys.

Herschel bag history

Based out of Vancouver, Herschel was founded in 2009 by brothers, Jamie and Lyndon Cormack. Its vintage-styled signature logo “Herschel Supply Co.” was inspired by the name of the small Saskatchewan town their family grew up in.

But, don’t let this Canadian brand named after a rural hamlet containing only 30 residents fool you. Herschel is a global accessory brand that has won over the hearts of the masses and can be seen all over the world.

According to a recent Globe and Mail feature story on the brand, Herschel has been profitable since day one with 75 per cent growth in sales between 2014 and 2015.

Selling in 70 countries and distributed by 7,000 retailers, this brand is becoming a recognizable staple in any person’s wardrobe, whether you are a career driven business man or a Queen West hipster.

Herschel bag versatility

The Herschel Collection, which is inspired by the changing world around us to offer nostalgia and functionality, contains an array of bags and accessories.

  • Looking for a backpack as a casual and functional wardrobe statement?
  • How about a stylish and sleek tote bag for the office?
  • Maybe a hip fanny pack?

This collection has it all from phone cases, to wallets, to hats to various bags. They even have a miniature collection, so that those with little ones can fashion their child with a cool polka dotted backpack.

Herschel is a brand that I’m thankful for

So if you are dependent on your bag as much as I am – and I’m sure you are – then you can see why Herschel is a brand that I simply can’t live without.

It protects my most valuable assets, it allows me to carry my daily necessities and it gives me a sense of style.
