For February, APEXers are dedicating a whole month finding out what topics, people or hashtags people follow religiously. Next up…
Social media & influencer relations pro and blogger
1. What person, topic or hashtag do you follow religiously?
2. Why do you follow them and why should others follow them?
“#SMmeasure is a weekly chat about social media measurement, but the hashtag is always full of substantive articles to help me stay up to speed in my industry.
#HumberPR is populated by Humber PR students, teachers, guest-speakers, alumni and PR pros. It’s a great resource for all things PR and also a great way to stay in touch with teachers and keep tabs on rising PR pros. If you’re looking to network with grads and other PR folk in Toronto, it’s a great place to start.
#TOpoli is my guilty pleasure. I’m a huge politics nerd and the city’s political snark is at its finest in this tag. It’s equal parts informational and entertaining – it’s where I got most of my Rob Ford news breaks around this time last year and is always moving at the speed of light after a big announcement. I’ve connected with a lot of like-minded people here over the years and gotten into some great debates along the way.
@DKNY is the account of the PR girl at the fashion house and she gives fantastic commentary along with behind-the-scenes peeks.
@fuggirls belongs to the ladies behind the popular snarky celebrity fashion blow, I’m Fugging You. This was one of the first blogs I started reading and they’re just as funny and cutting on Twitter as they are on the site. I especially love following their tweets during awards shows.
@TonyClementCPC is the account of Canadian Member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka and also the President of the Treasury Board. We’ve been connected on social media for about 5 years now and my family refers to him as “your friend Tony.” Yes, seriously. He’s my favourite politician to follow on social media and is such a fantastic example of how to marry professionalism and approachability. I don’t agree with his party of choice, but I love his tweets (and Instagram pics).
